Cats I Have Known

Our first cat was Miss Kitty, a solid white beauty.  When my sister moved away to college she had 2 cats, Hershey and Vinnie.  She acquired another rather rowdy kitty which we named Rascal. When I moved my sister said that I had to take Rascal because he was my cat.  Rascal moved around with me from place to place but didn't make it to my first house. JBird says that it's because he came along and Rascal's heart was broken. I'm looking for pictures to fill in the blanks here & will add them when I find them.

Then came Gritty Kitty, aka Gritster, a beautiful sable coated kitty from the Jackson County Humane Shelter. Could she have hailed from Miss Bertha's Kitty Boutique - could be because she was a great heater cat!

She was one of the best mousers but it was not a pretty sight when she caught them....she was overly enthusiastic about them...I won't go into detail. Our little ranch house in Murphysboro must have been a mouse magnet. I remember noticing Gritster looking up at the ceiling all the time. I thought she was just losing it...but one day I decided I would sit and watch, too. Lo and behold from the trim around the ceiling I saw a mouse tail.  I looked at Gritty and she looked at me as if to say, "See, I told you so!"

Before moving to Cobden, we adopted the stray, Tigger Lou, an orange tabby with a superior catitude. She made the trip to Cobden and adopted the new yard and back porch as her kingdom.

Our big dog, a 120 pound Malamute/Newfoundland mix, would give her the utmost respect - pretty sure there was an altercation at some point.  When he would pass by Tiggy he would lower his head as if to genuflect to the porch goddess. Tigger Lou was independent until the end.

Next came Sylvia, my tuxedo gal.  She's an old girl now, but here she is being exceptionally photogenic. She's a sweet kitty, a head butter and a lap cat.

Sylvie need a buddy, so we found Georgie Girl in nearby Mountain Glen.  As a kitten, Georgie and her litter mates could be found eating pork 'n beans. Her mother was named Trashy and we believe that Georgums inherited a love for the trash can from her mother!

Grungy has to be one of cutest - a tortie mix. I think she knows it too. She frequented our back door for food and won our hearts.  When she first came around, JBird called me at work and said, "It's kyoot!" And the rest is history. A poor start to her life with likely poor nutrition, has left its toll on Grungy, but she is a tough little girl.

And last but not least is Walter J. Cat. He is the official shop cat and doesn't know a stranger. People even know him by name.  He's a classic stripey tabby and rather large - 15 lbs.  Like the Rum Tum Tugger, he is always on the wrong side of every door.
